President’s Message: Deepwater Horizon
I would like to thank Chrysti Bryant for her hard work chairing the committee that put together our wonderful float for Fourth of July Parade. The artwork for the float was done by Chrysti and Stephanie Casson who did all the painting. PRW owes a special thanks to Denise Midgley and her husband Jim who have for the past 4 years let us decorate the float at their home. In addition Jim designed, built and put together the framework that we have used every year. This year he even built a special covering over the entire float so we wouldn’t have to work in the rain! Those of us who decorated the float especially appreciated that. And we made the front page of the Plano Star Courier to boot!! Be sure to check out the pictures included in this newsletter and on our brand-new website: www.planorepublicanwomen.org.
On April 20, 2010 the explosion of BP’s Deepwater Horizon killed 11 people and began what has been called the world’s “the worst environmental disaster”. It is now early in JULY, over 75 days as of July 4th and still no real end in sight. In listening to all the news and analysis of this disaster, I find two scenarios quite interesting. Neither is very comforting. Make no mistake about this: it is the PRESIDENT’S JOB to lead and get this cleaned up along with, of course, BP. This is not like Hurricane Katrina in which the states are the first line of defense (and don’t get me started on the ineptitude of former Mayor Ray Nagin and Louisiana Governor Kathleen (I’m leaving, but I’ll be back with body bags”) Blanco). The buck does stop on President Obama’s desk!
In my first scenario, the President is just “fiddling while Rome burns” because he really doesn’t have a clue as to what he should be doing and neither do the rest of his advisors. There are many things he could do, but he is too inept to know what to do first, so he does little or nothing. Indeed it does take him 10 days to make his first public comment on the oil spill. By Day 11, the oil penetrates the Louisiana wetlands while Obama meets with U2′s Bono in the Oval Office. So in this scenario, it turns out that the President is not nearly the “rocket scientist” that he has been portrayed to be and he really is not capable of leading in a crisis. Maybe that’s why he’s paid attorneys so much money to keep his school records under wraps.
Now to the second scenario, the President knows exactly what he is doing and this fits into his chief of staff Rahm “Dead Fish” Emanuel’s favorite saying: “Never let a good crisis go to waste!” With cap and trade looming on the horizon, why not use this to demonize “Big Oil” and America’s so-called addiction to the evil substance and just let everything “go to hell in a hand basket.” After all, the states being affected the most are “Red States” that all supported John McCain (with the exception of Florida). And if your goal is to bring America to it’s knees then who cares about the number of jobs lost or the damage to the coastline. According to Saul Alinsky (the first “community organizer”), a man that Obama greatly admires the end justify the means. And so now we have the cabal of Obama, Reid and Pelosi once again pushing a bill that will cripple the United States and cause job loss and massive increases in the cost of energy. Do they care? What do you think?
Considering all the evidence that this oil spill could have been contained had Obama acted quickly and taken advantage of the help that was offered from all over the world, I’ll let you decide which scenario fits. And we’ll see what happens with Cap and Trade or should we call it “Cap and Tax.”?
