Americans want, need, and deserve a United States Congress that reflects the will of the hardworking taxpayer, but the recent passage of the $2.6 trillion healthcare bill reiterates the Democrats’ arrogant disregard for the interests of the American people.
With rising unemployment and budget deficits, why on earth would Congress want to cut Medicare, slap small businesses with more taxes, and expand government once more by putting your healthcare decisions in the hands of Washington bureaucrats?
The Senate health bill that passed on Christmas Eve was made possible only after days of arm-twisting, backroom negotiations and sweetheart deals for dozens of Senators.
Exemption for Reid and Pelosi staff
The Democrats’ healthcare bill exempts senior staff in Congressional leadership and committee offices from being forced to purchase healthcare plans from the newly created exchanges.
The “Louisiana Purchase”
In an effort to secure her vote, Senator Mary Landrieu’s home state was granted a $300 million Medicaid bailout.
The “Cornhusker Kickback”
Senator Bill Nelson (D-NE) received a Medicaid payoff of $100 million.
The “Dodd Clinic”
Senator Chris Dodd secured $100 million in additional funding to benefit Connecticut hospitals.
“Gator-Aid”
Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) was able to exclude Florida seniors from the hundreds of billions of dollars in Medicare Advantage cuts that will force millions of seniors in the rest of the country to lose Medicare benefits.
The “Hoffa Handout”
Thanks to Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), union members received an extra $5 billion toward their medical expenses.
